2019 Judge for Fur Competition and Wolf Competition Dave Bewick
The Saskatchewan Trappers Association is proud to announce Mr. Dave Bewick as our 2019 wolf and fur competition judge. His expertise is nothing short of extraordinary throughout an outstanding career in the fur industry. When you see him at convention, take a moment to say hello and introduce yourself!
Below is a short list of his timeline.
Graduated from The University of Manitoba with a BSC in 1972.
Began with Dominion/Soudack Fur Auctions in October 1972 as a fur grader trainee.
Married in 1973.
Dominion/Soudack acquired by The Hudson’s Bay Company in 1976.
Promoted to Operations Manager – Winnipeg in 1982.
HBC sells fur division to Management in 1986, becomes Hudson’s Bay Fur Sales Canada.
Hudson’s Bay Fur Sales Canada renames to North American Fur Auctions in 1991
Moved to Toronto head office 1999
Promoted to Vice President Canadian Wild Fur Operations 1999
Returned to Winnipeg 2004
Accepted position of Wild Fur Shippers Council Executive Director – November 1, 2011
Retire from NAFA August 31, 2015
Retire from NAWFSC – October 31, 2017
Highlights
Travelled North America, Europe and China promoting NAFA Wild Fur assortments.
Attended all NAFA auctions and participated in buyer workshops with NAFA’s marketing agents
Attended trapper meetings, workshops and conventions throughout North America over my entire career
Represented NAFA at the annual Thompson Fur Table
Organize the NAFA Open House
Received trapping licence in 2008
NAFA representative for ranch mink in Alberta and Manitoba
Member of the board of the Fur Institute of Canada 2012-2015 representing NAFA
Established “Go Fur Gold” campaign with Olympian Megan Imrie
